Then When?

Here's one of my favorite books as a child. Haha. I don't know why but this reminds me of my childhood. Yes, my childhood is not fairy tales and other children stories. :) My cousin who used to lived with us has a copy of this that I like to browse every now and then during my grade school years. I remember typing the first part of this book so that I can have my own copy. But I eventually grew tired because for one, as a child, that's tiring and boring plus it's not the same feeling when I get to browse it with all the funny illustrations. When I reached college, I saw a copy in a bookstore, then I grabbed myself a copy.

It's actually a compilation of 'Philippine Superstitions and Folk Beliefs' as what's written in the front cover. The author divided it to subtopic like beliefs about death, wealth, love and marriage and etc. I'm familiar with some of the entries, as passed to me by relatives but most of it, I only learned here. It's fun to read coz you get to learn new things plus it will keep you wondering what's the basis for such belief.

If you wanna ask me if I follow any of these beliefs, answer is no. Hehe. For me they are just nice to knows. :) But I admit placing my notebook under my pillow before sleeping when I was a child, that is to retain what I studied the night before. It proves to be effective for me then, but now I believe all was just psychological. :)

How Random Can I Get

This year's holy week is not the usual one that our family has. We usually spend the week in my mama's province but this year, we just spent it here in Manila. I was also thinking they'll be taking us swimming for Black Saturday, like what we do in Zambales since there's lots of beaches there; but instead we just watched a movie. Guess what movie? Pak Pak My Dr. Kwak! Haha. :)) Then we also bought a DVD Player since the one we have is always acting up, we can't use it for long. There's a pile of DVDs to watch, I don't know where to start. Haha. I want to do a lot of things. I'm jelly with my friends in CamSur right now, my rents wouldn't allow me to go that far a place especially on a holy week. Our family has this bad experience on travelling alone (meaning not a family trip) during the holy week. My father met an accident when they're on their way back home from somewhere in central Luzon during a good Friday when I was like 6 years old. I didn't know what exactly happened there. Sorry if this post is getting too random. Now aside from being somewhere near the sea and finish watching the stack of DVDs, I would also like to finish the Percy Jackson series, at least all the released books. I'm currently reading the Lightning Thief. The movie was way different from what I can remember but I loved it though. I also want to write, write and write. Haha. Am I not write, I mean right now? I have this bunch of stories in my head that I'd like to share. Owell, I guess if I have more spare time. I'm thinking of sleeping a less, but I don't think I can give up sleep. But I'm determined to do all these. But on top of all these, I want to finish that IVT training and get my license and find a job and earn ageyn! Haha. :) Happy Easter Sunday!

May The Odds Be In Your Favor

My bum days are doomed. Haha. In a few days, Tuesday to be exact, I'll be back to my profession. Eh? Not really, but I'll be taking these lectures/trainings to get ready for being a full-pledged nurse. BUT I should stop speaking too soon, baka ma-udlot. Now help me pray for the odds to be in my favor. OK, that's a segue. This post is really about me finishing The Hunger Games trilogy tonight.

I've got nothing to do the past weeks so I decided doing something worthwhile. I'm not a bookworm, I mean, I just turned one over the past year. :) So there's a really few number on my 'read' (past tense) shelf. Most of them are 'mainstream' books that I got to know by word of mouth. Not really, because it's through the internet, where I really don't hear them speak. But I don't know what it's called.

Anyways, back to this trilogy, many have been recommending the books, so I gave it a shot. Good to know its fiction because I notice I'm turning to a sleepy head with real-life stories. Plus, it's what I needed at the moment, replacing my wanting for more Harry Potter but getting tired of these vampire stories and all.

These are really page-turners. It's got a bit of all - action, suspense, romance, etc. Again, I just finished it tonight, so what's fresh in my mind are the last scenes from Mockingjay. I was just smiling the whole time reading the few pages because it's who I ship that get together in the end. :) I think I just said a bad thing! Haha. Of all the things I can be happy of the book, it's the love story that I'm really spoiling right now.

Now, it's time to wait for the movie version. :) I learned that Jennifer Lawrence will be doing the lead role, Katniss Everdeen. I honestly don't know her. Peace! Let's just see then. :)

2011 Reading Challenge

I challenged myself to read 50 books for 2011. And http://www.goodreads.com/ will help track that out for me. :) I just signed up for it now, though I've actually been itching to create one months ago. I was reluctant because I already have this notebook for books I've read, which I created last year. So far it's not updated. Haha. But I'll push with this mini-project of mine. Here it is:

Watt Pad?

I'm not a bookworm. I don't think I'll ever be. But at times one just really have to spend time reading some good reads. I admit I finished reading only a couple of books (and I mean by a couple is about 10 or less.)

I actually can't remember the very first book I was able to read cover to cover. But I think it was an R.L. Stine's Chronicles of Cataluna Drive. I just grabbed the book (a pocketbook actually) from my cousin's things because I need to come up with a book review during my 1st year(?).

And when everybody else are going gaga over Harry Potter series. I didn't get hook, so that made it clear that I haven't read any of the 7 books. But I'm planning to, if time won't forbid. especially now that I can read it continuously because all 7 books are done. :) And above that, because i have WattPad in my hand. :))

It's a Java application installed in your phone where you can read books. Very handy, right? By this application, I was able to read the first of the Twilight Saga. :) I don't have to buy the bulky books and carry it with me just to be able to read it. I just need my phone and I'm good.

During the Holy Week, I planned to read several books; since I thought I'll get bored in the province. But then I was kept busy with my cousins and the cards, so I was just able to finish 2 books.

1. Tuesdays With Morrie. I have already read The Five People You Meet In Heaven during 2nd year college and I liked it so much that I want to read this after. But I can't find someone to lend me [HAHA. I don't spend much on non-nursing books]. Finally, I finished it and liked it as much as the first Mitch Albom book I've read.

It's about a professor to the last of his days teaching - not lessons in class but lessons of life. :)

2. The Alchemist. It's really been my goal to read all Paulo Coelho books. Now, I've started with one - The Alchemist. The story is all about how everyone has their Personal Legends to fulfill and how one should keep on achieving it once he knew of it. :) As I would quote from the book:

"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

It teaches one not to give up on what he wants no matter what. 'Coz if it's really for you, then the Man Above has His ways of giving it you. :)


Those books somehow gave meaning and sense to my Holy Week. :)
